A customer of mine here was telling me that he had his S-10 painted by the prison system. I haven't seen it, but he said it was well done and only cost $600. He said there is about a 6 month wait, but that seem like it would be worth the time.

Anyone heard of such a thing? I'm sure those prison boys would love to get their hands on something besides a Crown Vic....

They must have a body shop school... I've heard of engine rebuilds/brakes etc... Commonly there are leather/skin products like belts an such are more common. There are probably trade schools that do the same as well. ITT

Laz, I had one done that way. Basic single-stage, single color, applied pinstripe decals... I couldn't afford it any other way at the time. That was 20 years ago. Definitely worth looking into.

I like to think I contributed to (okay, benefitted from) one person's rehabilitation.

There is a local high school here in San Antonio that has a car/shop program sorta like this without the prisoners. Long waiting list though.

Many local jails & prisons & local high skls =have paint & body shops.Just have to call & see if they do & even colleges that one can sometimes get a car into. Another is metal shops also in same enviroment.

Many high schools did away with their mechanic & body shop programs cause they federal government wouldn't fund them!!!
It's a shame that we pay taxes for our kids to go to school & taxes to keep up prisoners & the prisoners get a better education with career training while our kids get nothing!!!!

The community college I am at for my technical electives does something similar, but with race-cars. Right now we are finishing adding a front spliter and rear wing on a car that we moved the engine back 8". We straightened a bent quick-change rear end on a different car last semester. These jobs do provide funding for the program though and saves the owners lots of money.
