I got a 1st gen tank from Kevin (Krappy Van) out in NJ a few years ago, off his van that had set for many years with gas in the tank. Now it looks like the tar pits on the insde of tank. Have tried acetone(did a little) & lacquer thinner Anybody got good way to get Gunk out of tank?? Seems to be good tank(not rusted out) just gunked up. Thank's for any & all Ideas

When I took the tank out of the 65 monster (Parts van) it had sat for years with fuel in it and had a "THICK" layer of Lacquer on the bottom. I used "under coating remover". Sprayed in all the holes, worked it around to cover the whole bottom and let it sit for a few days. Then I flushed it and it looked almost new on the inside!

MEK - Yes wi8ll clean anything like a fuel tank- yet as it evaporates quickly = all openings should be sealed.

You can also use Gunwash which is a mixture of MEK, tuolyne laquer thinner, isopropal alcohal, and Napta, and maybe another solvent too. Its made to clean anything out of paint guns. Get a Gallon at NAPA, throw it in and seal it up for a few days should do the trick.

Thank's 66 BC. Suppose to be getting a 67 tank(for 65 from Cail) from Scott on VCVC. In mean time pulled one out(of spares) with little rust hole(clean on inside) & cut it out ,made patch, will weld & seal it. It will go in 65 454 Drag Van for now(better than a 5 gal tank)
