I have had 8 of those Omni/Horizons over the years,,,,,I still have one left. They were the 1st ones, with the VW 1.7L engines and trans,,,,I bought them for parts and built a few for other people. It all started with me having to take out a 7 year loan to buy a car as part of my divorce settlement,,,,she buys a new Horizon, rolls it before she gets insurance and I end up with the wreck and 7 years of payments on it,,,,,,so I start finding all of them.

Man, that must have sucked. What idiot finance guy let her drive off the lot without insurance?

Bought my A100 Sportsman in '81. In '82 I HAD to get the $6,000 Dodge 024. Put $2500 down w/ 20% interest for 4 years. My father should have beat some some sense into me, but instead he co-signed. LOVED I love you the car, hated the payments after I went back to school. Worked my ass off, sold the A100 Sad and by '84 the sob was paid off. Traded it in on a new shinny red '90 E250 w/ a 300 inch 6/C6 and dual tanks.

Isn't funny how people have no idea as to why anyone can possibly want to own or drive a van, yet they ALWAYS call you whenever they need one. Then they're awe struck at how handy they are.

BTW - Instead of using scaffolding, we used to stand on top of the glass van to reglaze to countless factory steel sash windows. My father would use his van as a ladder boaster when he had to get up on a tall roof.

In other words, your video brought back a lot of memories. drunken

Donivan seems to have Mopars on the brain....what's next, an A100? Actually, a guy here in Ottawa used to race an Omni, it was fast...faster than a couple of 340 cars around. He had it all souped up.

Nice to see the old van being used!

Those Omnis and Horizons were really VW Rabbits with Dodge and Plymouth emblems on them back in 1978 when Chrysler was in big trouble. then in 1980, Chrysler started building them themselves with their own engines. And there were Turbo Charged ones and then they named them Chargers. I guess they stopped making them in 1996. And now, the PT CRUISER sure looks like it is related to the Omnis and Horizons. I got all kinds of parts for my Omni,,,,when something wears out, I just reach in the pile and slap it on. The car is real comfortable,,,,,has A/C,,,,,and 28 MPG,,,,,its a 4 on the floor......and it works too,,,,,here it is hauling a dually rear end for my motorhome from Pick a Part.

That seems to work out to a little more than 9000 miles a year, which is typical for a car, but I would venture to say the donivan65 van has had more adventure than most vehicles on the planet. Exclamation

back in the late 80s i worked landscapeing, just my friend Jim and I, he had one of those rampage pickups,(omni 024 style) he would load a jd rideing tractor in the bed, barely fit, then add the ramps 10-15 gallons of gas, 2 weed wackers and a push mower, and a large cooler. it hauled the two of us all over town, and that was just the lawn mowing part .he also pulled a trailer loaded to the hilt for big jobs. i believe it had the 2.2 it was an automatic too! i have a lot of respect for those little trucks. id like to see what a glh engine in one of those could do!

On mine, I bought this receiver and cut off the ends which were not long enough to reach up to the frame. I made up some side plates and brackets, slipped some 2" square tubing inside the frame rails, welded the brackets and braces on, then bolted the complete unit on with 6 bolts on each side.
