What I am wondering is...I currently having motor issues. I have a 230 that is spaying oil out the back. It is very under powered for what I would like. (I just need to be able to accelerate up hills and reach the speed limit without putting it to the floor) I am considering a rebuild/replace of a 250. But while researching I-6's, I came across this modern Vortec 4.2L DOHC I-6. This was highly rated.

I'm just wondering if anybody has tried to swap a newer I-6 in an early?

    What issues would there be?

Any feed back would be appreciated

Well, i don't know anything about the engine you have mentioned. A link would help answer your question, but presuming it is a modern engine there are lots of things that will need altering.
Wiring will be an issue, especially if it has an ECU and fuel injection. You will need to alter the fuel tank as well. Connecting the gearbox to the diff will require some alterations.
Getting your gauges to work with the engine may require some new ones being purchased.
Its a good idea though, i am putting a lot of thought into buying a BMW 325 diesel which is a 2.5 litre straight six engine that is praised as being amongst the best engines that they have made.

It all depends apon your abilty to do the swap. If you have to pay someone to do the job, this will kill you money wish. I have a fuel injected 5.3 (out of a 2001 chevy truck)going in my 64. I made all of the parts for the swap including the wiring harness. Look around on the internet for someone doing a swap with this engine(won't be a early)but there knowledge will help from doing things twice. please don't be scared of all the wiring that goes with a fuel injected engine, most of it simple once you get into it hope this helps Bob

That one's gonna be tough. Did you know the
differential is integrated into the oil pan?
More fab work needed but do-able if you weld
    aluminum.

I always was partial to the EFI version of
the Ford 2.3L which has pretty good torque and
HP. Plus, it's pretty light in weight.

definately buy a running vehicle so you get the 20 or 30 items you didnt think of. i have considered a jag 4.0 245 horse and simple (free) mods will add another 30 h.p. and the turbo version is 325h.p. just daydreams at this point since i am a thousand bucks into a 292 right now and will likely have that much more before its in and running.

I will agree with buying the whole vehicle. I bought the 5.3 for my project it was in a wrecked truck. I picked what I need(harness, exhaust, rad, mounts air box etc) then I list parts on craigslist. I made my money back plus some. Go to you local salvage yard and talk with them, usually if the motor isn't a popular seller you can get a great deal. I ran a add on craigslist looking for a damaged truck and got lucky Bob
