Re: DanThe Van Man in the spotlight
G-Man,
Yes, it is very solid. To the point of disbelief. Just a little rust under the front bumper and that's it. Keep in mind it was really sitting in a barn. Yes, a barn for the last 15-18 years and everything works and is in good condition though the outside became weathered and was “Growing to a nice mossy green” when I found it. Still working on the mechanics of it making sure it is 100% first. Will be replacing the entire brake system next weekend with new and would love to go Disc. But don’t have that kind of disposable income right now (“Tis the season ya know”). Still working on that $5 Sun-visor. I have to MOD the front spoiler I won off eBay and the working on the whole trailer hitch thing. The info out there for early hitches is baffling at best but I’ll figure something out.
Not sure on the color yet. The original interior silver paint is in excellent condition and will keep it, so I will go with silver as a base for the exterior as well but thinking about painting the upper band- (From front door window to front door window around the back) in a "Aqua Marine" or "Cobalt Blue" with “Ghost” fish scales (Not Flames) fading to the back. Hey, it’s going be a fishing van….Why not.. And Maybe replace all the glass with either Green or Dark tint. It will be awhile before I can get to that point. Hopefully before we start heading in your direction next Spring/Summer.
Will keep everyone updated as it progresses.....

Mike, You got what, five vans now? or is number 6? Think you may be needing to expand that garage a little more.... lol How's the paint look? Can it be buffed out?

Re: DanThe Van Man in the spotlight
Dan I'm pretty sure that the receiver hitch on my 67 is bolted through the frame all the way through the floor in the rear. I'll check tomorrow.
The 66 is #6 but only four are drivable. The other two(2nd gens) are just parts vans. Four drivers is one to many. As soon as I decide what I'm going to do tire, wheel, and seat wise in the 66 then the 68-108 is going up for sale. The paint on the 66 will do for a while but it's poping off in a few places on the roof. Your right it will look a lot different with just a good cleaning.

Re: DanThe Van Man in the spotlight
Cool. Let me know on the hitch. I've got a lot of mixed opinions on the subject and a dozen people telling me the best way and there all different. I want to pull the bass boat behind it so I need it to be pretty tough. Haven’t heard from Donivan on the subject. Think I might email him. After all he is the “Van God” and has done it all and always knows the “Best way” when it comes to these vans.
