HOW TO: Headlights On - buzzer
Have you ever run your battery down because you left your headlight on? Here is a simple solution that will give you a headlight left on buzzer for less than $16.00 and 10 minutes of your time.
Head down to your local Radio Shack and pick up a couple of items:
1-Pick up a mini 12 vdc electric buzzer part # 275-55
2- Pick up a 12 –volt relay (Must be capable of “Normally closed”) (Most relays with 5-Prongs).
3- Pick up a package of 22-18 ga. wire quick connects part # 64-3132
For my 1965 Chevy Van I wired it as follows:
Now when your Van is running and your headlights are on the buzzer will not sound, but as soon as you shut off your vehicle the buzzer will sound if you have left your lights on.
Anyway, Hope this helps some of you and if you have issues understanding “How relays work” you should check this out:
“How to: Use Relays in Your Wiring Projects”
*** I also have two of these type buzzers (Churp type) spliced into my Left & Right Blinker wires. This prevents me from driving around all day with one blinker on from the last time I turned (10 miles back!!)…."Don't Laugh, Yeah we all do it" .
