To answer you question, no I haven't tried it. The Econoline Travel Wagons were very similar to what you are attempting though. Should be a neat project. Take lots of pics!

Great idea and those Westy interiors are really sturdy. Mostly hard wood and dense plywood--just heavy. Please show us some pick when finished.
