Time to let go of my baby, a 1964 Chevrolet panel van. It is fully insulated, paneled and then carpeted. It has a 350 engine and an automatic TH350 transmission. It has a B&M QuickSilver floor shifter mounted on an air tunnel/console. Very comfortable Chevy Celebrity reclining seats and over-the-should seat belts. Brand new Summit Racing Aluminum radiator, White faced gauges, New brakes shoes, drums turned, brake lines and hoses (hard and soft), and a new dual master cylinder and wheel cylinders and wheel bearings. Frenched license plates and taillights. All locks and ignition have been keyed to 'one key opens all'. Overhead console with hidden LED lights. Tons of hidden storage areas in the back. Comes with spare tire and jack. 1978 Corvette aluminum slotted wheels and like new BFG T/A Radials, 235/60-15. My reasoning for selling is I have too many toys and something has got to go, plus I just bought another 60s van. It has been hard for me to make up my mind to sell my van and it won't take much convincing for me to keep it. This van rides extremely smooth and is a blast to drive. Hard to drive anywhere quick, everyone wants to tell you stories about when they were young, or that their Dad had one when they were little and would take them to a 3 day Pop festivals. You really need to see it to appreciate it.. But it is ready for a road trip or a camping trip. Once you get an early van, you will be hooked for life. The price is firm, an offer of anything less will help me decide to keep it. Antique Insurance is really cheap through Haggerty.

Thanks for the positive vibes. Makes me nervous discussing it until it's in my drive, especially after Roman's experience. Using a guy right from that area. He's old school and still does cash on delivery with no deposit required. He charges the current owner 80 cents a mile and said it's usually 90 cents, but he would do that for me (and probably anyone.)

In fact, he is going to deliver this gentleman's van tomorrow and pick up the one that would be mine tomorrow. Says he can get it here by Wednesday.

The seller told me that the driver actually has an Econoline with a 450 or somthing engine that is so large he removed the dog house. He said you can see it sitting up when looking in the rear view. I don't think he runs it as he doesn't have time with all his traveling.

Anyhow, I feel this will be just what I need. The van went through Katrina. He took it completely apart and re-worked everything. A true survivor. Even cooler for me is that a big piece of me is with New Orleans and this one has been through the flood and back. He drained it completely and re-did everything. Never had any rust other than a dime size piece he cut out of passenger door area where some debris had sat over time.

Some additional cowbell for the man with the best damn interior of any Gen 2 window van around!

In addition to all the other stuff he's done, the gas tank has been relined, new gas guage, has a 3:36 rear end, Dual exhaust Flowtech muffler, added pop-out windows, replaced all window seals and everything else you see he's done in this link.

    https://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/gregw98/My%201964%20Chevy%20Van/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ20

Again, not all to my perfect taste, but the important stuff for me is there.

He says it cruises perfectly at 65. He replaced the stock radiatior as a precaution because it ran a little hotter at 70 even though it wasn't boiling. This guy loves this van and is only selling as he's always had his heart set on a window van and has one coming tomorrow.

I really feel this van is ready to roll. cheers

Absolutely! Money sent...On a truck tomorrow! Thanks for all your help. I'm humbled by the all the guys on here who do this type of work day in, day out. While I'll take pride in this van, I'll never have the pride of those who've put so much sweat equity into their own. I can't wait to learn myself.

    Jim

Jim, the guy's name is Mark Nettles. He's based out of the New Orleans area. His number is 985 678 0917. I can tell you from one other experience shipping a car purchased on Ebay that the transport bidding game is a pain. Lots of guys want deposits up front and they will run you around for days saying they have a taker for your vehicle.

I'd give him a call when you spot something and see if it fits into his plan. He is super nice and does cash on delivery. And, you cut out the middle men who get their cut, so he can likely give you a better price since he doesn't have to pay the "vig."

FYI, if anyone has any needs going from Nola and in between Charleston and then up to Jersey, you may want to check with him.

Yes it is a nice van, only reason he's selling is he's more of a Sportvan fan and he just got one.

Ha, ha. Yes, better last night. It got picked up today, so the nervous feeling has subsided a bit. Still a nervous feeling of the unknown since I've never owned a classic vehicle. Time to learn...

Found this photo on Greg's VCVC gallery. For some odd reason, he didn't include it in his photo bucket or CL listing. Might scare some folks. This was after Katrina. Hope he changed the seats otherwise they may have a bit of pluff mud stink to em...

Most of us Chevy owners know the history of this van. He just got the motor finished and was ready for paint then Katrina hit. This is not the worst picture. You'll be happy to know he redid the motor (and the whole van) I'm sure you'll have no issues because of that. He redid everything and Greg does have a eye for detail. So you be more than happy with this van

Yea, I'm fired up! I'm not worried at all. He told me about Katrina. I was kidding about not posting the photo. The Katrina thing, as crazy as it sounds, is a plus. Not too many vintage vans can claim they've survived Katrina.

He said he was working on helping family rebuild, and in between time waiting for supplies, he would "scrub and rub" or something like that for hours on end. It sounds like this is better than it would have been pre-Katrina. Already trying to figure out my plans to make it my own...Should be arriving Wednesday.

I know. My favorite van color. White doesn't really snap off the lines like other colors. These just seem to pop in red (along with everything else.) Not sure of the ultimate plan. We are going to put our logo on it, so I have to decide whether to go all logo or just some logo. I don't want to lose the feel of it being a vintage van.
