the first two are a 47/53 chevy truck rear
the second two are a 67/72 stepside rear
all of the other model chevy truck bumpers were to wide
these bumpers are available at lmc, brothers, and classic
parts, theyrun about 150.00 each. the 47/53 they (classic parts)
have in stainless steel for 400.00 eack.

Re: bumper ideas
my vote is for first 2. how well does it mach the contour of our vans? evan gap between bumper and body? heres a couple i have used. 1962-[img]https://i.servimg.com/u/f49/16/29/87/67/van_en10.jpg[/img]64 nova rear first 2 are 1962-64 nova rear, next is 1967 and 1969 camaro rear bumpers. i had to cut the returns on the '67 to fit the front but '69 fits nice. the camaro bumpers are available for just over a hundred and the nova is about 175.00. i paid 30.00 ea. for mine at a swap meet.

Re: bumper ideas
First two look more like they flow with van. 2nd look more "boss." Depends what you like. Not a fan of skinny or no bumper look.

Re: bumper ideas
the curveature of the first bumper fits the shape of
the front of the second gens perfect, not a perfect fit
on the rear but not bad.
I bought the second bumper, held it up to the front of
a first gen, fit the curve very nice, held it up to the
rear of a dodge, also nice fit, it was to narrow for the
front of the dodge, need to find a cheap 47/53 rear to
check fit on the dodges and first gens.

Re: bumper ideas
Back in the day, my 64 GMC van did not have any bumpers on it when purchased. I made the bumper front from 3" heavy steel channel and the rear from 6" (painted black). Then trimmed a 2x4 and 2x6 for wood inserts; scorched with a propane torch and finished with outdoor Varithane.

Re: bumper ideas
Back in the 70s a lot of people would use a 2x8 or 2x10 and then take a router to it and carve in a name. Some carved in Budweiser and painted the letters red then coated it with urethane.

Re: bumper ideas
i like the bumpers you installed. with the rifgt grommet or chrome trim ring some small fog lights would look good.

Re: bumper ideas
i have many hours getting that to 95% complete. bought the van and done little to it since. i missinterpreted the original post when i added my bumper options. i thought it was asking for options. now i relize he was asking which of his options is preferred.itruns wrote:Looks great RD.

El Camino Bumbers
I thought I had seen some body using El Camino rear bumbers. Look cool with the tail lights in the chrome.
