Re: Storage in Your Van ........
I plan to make something in the back of the 64, those 90" don't have alot of room in them. I think that floor storage is cool, but have so many things going on under the 64 I'm sure I can't do that

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
That would be cool to do in the bed of my pickup. I could hinge the floor to cover the tools and be able to lock them up. That way it would stay nice and clean looking in the bed and I wouldnt lose any of the cargo space that I might need in the future. Thanks for posting up that pic!

great idea, I'm gonna do some measurements of the econoline, it would be cool if there is room to sink the battery box into the floor somewhere

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
I was thinking of putting a "battery box" with 2 or 3 Optima batteries turned on their side in there so that they would be accessible from underneath.
How much "structure" do you think the floor gives the van? Would cutting several holes in there weaken it?

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
I really Like the Batteries out side !!! I was also thinking of mounting one of those connectors that the tow trucks have .... one end plugs in and the other end regular Jumper cables !!!! I was thinking it could be mounted up front in the door step .. that way when you need to Get a Jump or be Jumped you just open the passenger door you Don't have to crawl under the Van !!!!

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
If you do hidden built-in storage IN the vehicle like that, be careful going across borders!
That is the sort of thing they see a lot. Do some searches on smuggling and you will likely see lots of ideas like that!
For tools a box, bag or plastic bucket so you can grab them all and carry them is the best. Grabbing a few items, find you need something different and going back and dig some more wastes time and gets annoying. One of the little magnetic trays is a great help while working too.

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
Rod Brings up some Good Points there .... the Border would be a Problem ... for sure ... as you can see in the the Picture ..this guy has intergraded storage .. and a Bucket also !!!! But I still think it would be good for a Jack or ??? anything you Don't want sliding around !!! However .. This Idea wont work well if you own a No door Van ...... like myself !!!!

I am planning on putting either two Optimas or two Kinetic High currency batteries on their sides under my 61 Econo. Maybe move the gas filler neck inside the bed.

Not if you frame them I wouldn't think.

I moved the battery to under the floor behind the passenger seat in a Œ64 and a Œ65 Econoline van. I bought the kits from JC Whitney about 30 years ago. It was designed to put your second battery under your van. For me it was the only battery.
It was sort of like this one from Summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-E890101/?rtype=10
but mine is made out of sheet steel. Mine has the flange only at the top, so after cutting out the hole, it dropped down with sealer all around. Then the lid was a flat steel plate that screwed down in the four corners.
Unfortunately, it does not appear that anyone makes that style.
You never knew it was there under the carpet.
I wish I had some photos of it.

that's what I'm thinking, there's room in a pickup behind the driver's seat between the engine and frame. I have to make those floor panels anyway so I will just design them with a hole for the box.

I use an old Marine's foot locker that I painted black and chrome.
Looks like a pirates chest in the back of the vanup.

One example of a lower mount battery box.
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Drop-out-Battery-Box,5047.html
There are many others, cheaper and more expensive.
This one is nice because it can drop down for service.

Re: Storage in Your Van ........
I've had my 68 since 2004, the other day I noticed these for the first time. They didn't have doors and blended in well near the battery box. I was going to ask everybody here if these were fairly standard/common? I would like to find doors for them. I think a good military case would work inverted. This set up is not the most accessible though.
1 said "White Gas" & the other said "Camper motor oil"
They were mounted to the frame rails and to some additonal dividers. wish i had the doors. If anyone recognizes these and can help me find some doors please let me know.

They are ammo boxes, i have 3 in my van. One under each front seat and mounted to the dash whcih acts as a cup holder. There are various types and sizes available on Ebay, but if you take some measurements you may be able to find some the same that you can use the lids off, as they are removeable.

A previous owner was probably tired of being hassled by the man, so he removed the lids!
