250/6 with th350. prior owner had line to vacume modulator disconected. had to manually downshift. i connected it to port on intake, slightest load or press on pedal and it downshifts, way to sensative. also issue with idle, once in drive the idle drops considerably. i want to verify ALL vacume lines before replacing modulator. if bad, i will get adjustable. i currently have tranny line to large (5/16"-3/8") port on intake, medium (~1/4") at base of carb to pvc, and small from distributar to mid height of carb. if someone can verify or give correct locations, it would save me lots of time and stiff back. thanks, john.

the pcv should go to the larger port and the modulator to the
smaller one. should make it less sencitive. if get one of the adjustables
and dial it in. good luck

just how much does it drop in rpm when you put into gear?,
it will drop some, the torque converter is what determines the
amount of the drop. I think that there is a difference between the
v8 converter and the 6.

no tach. drops a few hundred rpm. turned idle down low, guessing under 500 rpm and still grabs when dropped in gear. problem was present before i modified engine, bigger cam requires a little higher idle to run smooth. at around 900, idles nice but grabs hard in drive, at 750, its o.k. but almost stalls at red lights. i assumed torque converter problem but dont want to tear it apart and throw money at it without being sure.

I see that you installed a hotter than stock cam.
Do you have the power band of the camshaft?
I`m talking about the rpm that the cam starts to make power.
as a rule of thumb you need a stall converter that is 200-500
above the start of the power band of the camshaft. This will cure all
of your idliling problems. this will make the bang into gear a lot softer.

powerband from 1200-5500 rpm and claims stock converter o.k. this problem was there before adding cam, but more noticable now. switched vacume lines as you described and verified correct from another motor, installed new modulator but didnt mess with adjustment. shifting has improved but will need some adjustment. will call summit about converter, they have 218 options for the th350.

with that power band it sure does sound that the stocker would be ok.
Is the th350 stock or modified, shift kit or internally hopped up that you
know of? The one thing I`m not sure about, is there a difference between
a v8 converter and the straight 6 converter, not sure if there is anything
else that i can do from here.

'77 292 in a p.u. but not sure if it was original. did some internet surfing and confirmed bad converter, and bigger cam made bad into worse. summit says 2000 to 2500 stalll should work with 2500 getting most out of cam.
