Locked?????

Wow,a locked topic???? Thats new to me. I ve never seen that before here at Vintage Vans. I thought we were always free to discuss things as long as we stayed in the site guidelines. Every, and I do mean every site has disagreements,this one is no exception so we can all get off our high horses and get a cold drink. I understand the intent behind locking it but feel I have something to contribute from a moderators standpoint that all could benefit from even though I dont moderate this site. I ve been a moderator at the Yahoo Old Econolines site for over 10 years and learned a lot in that timeframe. I ve made some good and some not so good decisions(mistakes) and I continue to learn more all the time. I try and treat each situation individually and each person involved that way too. All I would ask is that in future situations the moderator or moderators at east give the parties invoved a chance to try and work it out. Most things resolve themself and others require "Moderator Guidance" as a last resort. In this situation I dont understand why a whole thread topic would be deleted instead of just the individual posts deemed innappropriate. I thought the original post was fine and should have been left but thats just me. I dont know who the moderator was and Mike was very discreet in his discussion with me thru email and didnt mention anyones name to me so Im still totally in the dark. He handled it well and wasnt whining. He just felt insulted his original post was deleted since he was so proud of his club and was the reason for his post in the first place. Long story long,moderators here do a great job and every day is a learning experience. Hopefully we all learned something here for future application. Comments about this wecome but try and keep anything geared toward how this type stuff is handled and not the specific situation that just happened. i dont wanna beat a dead horse here.

I am with you Tim. I was shocked this morning to see mikes post. I wasn't aware he could leave being such a integral part of this forum.
As a disclaimer I missed the whole thing.

As some of you may or may not know I am involve with Mustangs and belong to two other forums. The original one was great but everytime there was a disagreement, the post was either deleted or locked .It got to the point where a few guys were banned (a few deserved it).

About two years ago some of these gentleman started a new site and added a room to voice their disagreements.If you don't want to hear it you stay out of the room. Do they some times get heated ,sure, but they always work them selves out.

This is not to suggest a new site please do not take it that way,just sharing what happened over there.The original site is still great but will never be the same without the guys that left. But at least they learn from their mistakes.Threads are given more time to come to a conclussion and if they are locked they are not deleted (unless offensive) so everyone can see why it was locked and hopefully learn from it.

We can't afford to loss guys like Mike, hopefully this can be fixed.

I just wanted to add that this is a great site and I tell people about it all the time. Overall this site is definitely the most trouble free site I have ever belonged to. I dont think thats by accident either. A moderators job can be very tough at times trying to keep the peace and keep everyone happy. Overall the moderators at this site do an outstanding job. I brought this up only hoping to avoid future issues resolving in the same way. I dont have all the facts from all sides so I cant really make a concise decision. Then again Im not a moderator here either so I ll have to assume the moderator, whoever it was, did what they did with best intentions. I never like to see anyone leave over a disagreement. Hopefully he will reconsider.
