i need help

im having this problem with the jeep, and im concerned it might lead to something worst. i know its not a van, but i have to ask the experts for some help before i take it to the shop.
when i started the jeep today i had to hit the 'starter relay' a few times for it to start. and when running i hear this 'ratcheting' noise.
i also notices a jumper cable where im sure it should not be. and also a crack on the relay, here are some pics, thank you guys. i really apreciate it.

yup- change the starter solenoid that all is hooked to - someone has the alligator clips powering something and the other one is on the Ground??? cable possible- needs to be redone properly. The cause of having to hit that solenoid is a coroded contact inside that u cant repair -- just get a ned solenoid & change it -putting all back like it was & try it . Then if all is good - re-do those wires properly
