A100 front brake drums Empty A100 front brake drums

Post by BADBADGER Tue Dec 21, 2010 4:12 am

Im working on the front axle assembly and front brakes on a 67 A100. The drums are pretty well shot so I started to search for new ones at the local parts stores i.e. Oreillys, Napa. Oreillys did not have a listing, Napa did, there is one in Seattle and one in Detroit. The price was ridiculous. Are these drums really that hard to come by? Any one else having trouble locating front drums for a 67 A100. I'll continue with my I-net search in the morning.

They require some special effort to remove from the hub and studs, too.
Search this site for more info.
The studs are pressed into the hub, then the drums are swedged on the studs. You must grind/cut the swedges from the drum to remove it, NOT just try to press the studs out.

You can get them from rockauto.com Brake Drum

Thanks for the site recommendation. I will check out rockauto to see what spare parts they have available. I'm planning to do some maintenance and swap parts after winter.

A100 front brake drums Empty Front brakes A100

I forgot o menton in my first post on this subject , the front brakes are 11" dia with 2 3/4" shoes. Rock auto did not have that size. I tried to have the origianals machined out but they went over the maximum diameter. So with all of that said, yesterday I went back to the local Napa store in Sandpoint for some other items and asked a different parts guy if he would check availability of the drums again. After checking the west coast warehouses he found one in Seattle and one in Phoenix. However he said if I prepaid for the drums they would include the order on the next stock order for the store and I would not have to pay shipping. Better still the stock order for the store was being placed this week so I could expect the drums in about 10 days. As they are coming from the main warehouse with the stock order they are being shpped out of Utah. A bit pricey at 81.00 ea, but they are new drums. I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to brakes.

Good choice, just make sure to report back on condition and country of origin.
There have been some posts about offshore brake parts that do not work as well. How you can mess up a cast iron casting is beyond me, but that has been said.
