Re: Vangina...
This Van is the reason I Love Earlys ..... I believe These Pic's were Taken in Colorado ... in 1973 ...... Later on in this Vans Life it was Renamed .... SEARCH AND RESCUE .... I had a chance to buy it ... in Chino cal .... for 1500.00 in the late 70's Early 80's and at that Point it was Crudely converted to four wheel drive ... it had a small Block Chevy in it that had been taken out ..... Basically it was Nothing but a Shell .... That was completey Tore Back ....... wires running all over ..... Just a mess ........ But this is the Van I fell in Love with way back when ....... Wonder what ever Happened to it ????? or a better Question .. what year did it Get Crushed ????
This is what My van was Built after !!!!

Re: Vangina...
Dec 5-7, 1975, Southern California Van Council "Truckin For Tots" at Soledad Sands Campground near Acton Cal. (now a Thousand Trails RV resort)....... One of the events was a "Hill Climb" wher folks would (believe it or not) charge up this soft dirt hill to see how far their van would go up......In my recollection, there was a hefty prize (like $100) for "king of the hill".....It was extremely entertaining watching one guy after another run late-model 2wd vans at that hill, get halfway up and get stuck.
The ONLY van that went up and over the top was "Vangina", which was a 4wd early Chevy (I had remembered it as being silver, though)......While it did go up slipping and sliding and got a bit sideways and came close to tumbling down sideways, it DID NOT struggle to blast over the top.... Up till that time, I had considered the idea of a 4wd van to be a gimmick, but that thing actually worked! I was there!! Dec 6th, 1975.......
