Well heard there was a 65 Sportvan in Lake City, FL. About 100 miles away with bench seats so up at 5 this morning and on the road with a pot of coffee in me. Got to the Yard at 10 till 8, they open at 8:00. Asked the owner and was told "Yeah, it's out there. You can take a look if you want". So off I went and found it. Half it's face was missing and no bench seats but lots of other goodies..... I still think I hit gold. This thing had everything my soon to be arriving Sportvan was missing! So 4 hour later I packed everything into the pickup and headed home. Once I get it all unpacked and layed out I'll post some more pic's of the spoils...

Thanks Guys. The new Sportvan should be picked up sometime next week and be delivered within 10 days. It is a Sportvan Deluxe and is missing the panels and step so figuring they were removed at some point and it doesn't have pop-out windows. Everything else was a bonus. Still looking for bench seats though... May have to adapt some mini-van seats.

    Dan

I found a '67 sportsvan not too far from where I live. Front doors are good, all others are shot, rockers are gone, has all the fiberglass panels inside and 4 popout windows, one nice front chrome bumper. Looks complete and unmolested with a V8... 283? Says it runs and drives but has been parked for quite a few years. I believe it still had the bench seats inside. He wants $500 for it. I was hoping he would just sell some parts off of it but wants to sell it whole.

I know what you mean about not really needing the parts, but when it is close you have to "watch" it. I have been watching one close to me, and I am going to get it before it gets cut up and bring it home. Not real sure what I am going to do with it yet.

Dan good pickins! The rarest thing I see there is the cover for the side step linkage. Personally I would think of beefing it up on the bottom side with some more glass if it is possible. I don't know if you can since I've never seen one in person. Or just dust it off and put it under glass in a museum. Laughing

Man, Dan, that was quite a find, for sure! Being a Deluxe owner myself, that stuff looks very familiar! I assume the Sportvan in your member icon is the one you're waiting on. Did you say that was a Deluxe? Well, if not, it will be now!

The pop-out windows are great, of course, but there are some other choice items there. The mirror with dimmer. A step that actually works (mine was rusted in place - I don't want a step anyway). I understand those little additional pieces on the defroster vents are very rare. The window panels (did any Sportvans not come with those?). They are a must-have. The antennaes are kind of hard to find (so, what, they took the whole nose of that van but left the antennae behind?!). And the interior vinyl is very nice to have! Mine came with it (same color) but the lower half is shot. I figure at the very least I'll reuse the chrome trim from it.

I never noticed those headliner supports tucked behind the window panels. Those should be handy when it comes time to put in a new headliner.

It's great you were able to rescue all that stuff from the crusher. But how come I don't see the Deluxe "waist band" trim in your spoils?! Don't tell me you left all that behind!! That stuff is impossible to find (unless you have a buddy like Don who had the one piece I was missing).

    Welcome to the Sportvan club!!

    Thanks VANagain!
I originally wanted a Sportvan but couldn't find one anywhere in the SE. United States for the longest time so when I got the chance to pick up the panel so I did. Still have never seen one for sale around here.
As far as I know and from what I have researched on Sportvans, all the ones sold as "Passenger vans" meaning the had factory bench seats came with the window panels. So if a Sportvan has the bench seat mounting plates welded to the floor then it would have come with the window panels. And the "window conversion kits" sold to dealerships in the late 60's (Converts a panel to window van)(these would have non-recessed windows and no small window behind doors). These would not have come with window panels (I’m not a big fan of those small windows anyway!). (Quote from: GM Historian. GM proving grounds, Brighton, Mi.).

And for the Deluxe "waist band". I was drooling over it until I noticed the Pass door was missing and figured that one piece would be impossible to find! Still contemplating on going back for a couple of other things, might still grab all of it while I'm there. Know anyone with a spare Pass door trim?

    Dan
