getting old is a bitch

Last Friday and part Saturday I spent my time at the VA Hospital emergency room for gall bladder problems. They gave me Oxycontin pills which were worthless. Spent all day there today and now I have a bunch of morphine pills. They said I need another surgery on my left shoulder and my right shoulder needs to be rebuilt not to mention both knees need to be replaced and I may need a spinal fusion in my lower back. They wanted to give me one of those electric scooters and I refused it. I can still walk so they gave me one of those big walkers with a seat and a basket. It even has hand brakes. Working on my van is almost out of the question now and I may end up selling it if things get worse. I am looking for a C4 tranny that I can put in the van so I don't have to shift anymore. Anyone know where I can get one fairly cheap. If it needs to be rebuilt that is OK too.

i hope you feel better. my dad says growing older is not for sisys. how true. theres a new something everyday. to bad we dont have the parts WE need laying on the bench next to our van parts. hell were already in the shop. hang in there.............

Damn that's too bad Mike, when it rains it pours, eh? I'm jealous, last year when I fell off the trailer of my Semi and crushed both heels and broke both ankels the VA up here only gave me a regular wheelchair much less a scooter. About six months later when I was learning to walk again I got a regular walker with no wheels HA! They must treat you Vet's better in CA Hang in there kid hope to see you get better!!!

I am sorry to hear that Mike. I would not discard the scooter so quickly. I know it my be a pride thing (and God knows you must have plenty of that based on your service alone) but they do come in handy at certain times.
I had to rent one twice at Carlisle over the years do to my arthritis (I am on Remicade) Once I got over the pride thing it enabled me to see the whole show and I was able to walk a second day do to no fatigue. Hang in there man.

On a lighter note there may be a Business Opportunity here. Most of us are not getting younger. Some of the mods to your van may be marketable. Something tells me you can make an early with some handicapped mods very tasty and cool and be the envy of us all.

Thanks to you all. I like to walk but can't walk far so this new walker with a seat built on and a basket to carry any goodies is perfect.

No but I am brainstorming on what to do to it. Maybe some mini Cragars. I know a place that makes all kinds of rims.
