Door Rubber...for the doors
I looked, but the only thing that comes up is the doghouse using S-10 door rubber. I'm wondering what everyone uses or suggests for replacing the door rubbers on the front (or any doors)? Mine was pretty wrecked and came off in pieces, so there isn't anything to take to the auto store for reference. Anything that matches up nicely?

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
Well,,,,,,I see some of those $150 kits around,,,,,but I went to Pick a Part and got the front weatherstripping off the Dodge Vans,,,,,the newer the better condition they will be in,,,,,our doors are bigger but you can add more to the bottom section. And you want something that looks like a "D",,,,,,,you might even have to trim some of the Dodge, or other type to look like that shape. But go to a wrecking yard,,,,,,see what they want for a weatherstrip,,,,,,I don't think they are worth more than $10 each, myself. But check it out,,,,,,,I used them on my side doors too,,,,,,,

Thanks for the help! I'll use that pic as a guide. I'll probably see if a auto trim shop has something similar. I'd just like to get some brand new stuff that is full of life. Now I've got a starting point, though, thanks!

What you get from restoration specialties actually is labeled steele rubber. I cant remember for sure but I think both run the same price.

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
Steel rubber and Restoration specialties are two entirly different companies. They do buy from each other though.
A well know Early van owner from Conn went to Steel Rubber to have the doors seals make for Early Chevy vans.I have delt with both companies and feel like steel rubbers service was way better.
I still have a good connection (factory direct for the window fuzzy kits) and glove box liners.......

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
I bought my door rubber from Steele and am about to finally install it! On the left-hand cargo doors, the rubber is not a complete loop. Each end has a tab of metal imbedded in the rubber that gets riveted to the door. My painters did not remove the old ones before painting, like I had asked.
Does anyone know if this is a rivet that has to be drilled out or something that can be pried out? Rivets don't seem like something GM did much. It's not a pop rivet. And if it's a real rivet, I don't see how they could have gotten to the other side to "back it up".

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
See what the others say , but I treated it as a blind rivet and drilled the head off then punched the remainder through. Then used pan head screws to attach the new ones. Tape up some cardboard or something to protect your new paint?

I don't know that I like that 3/4 way weatherstrip,,,,I think a complete one does a better job,,,,,,

Door Rubber
Has anyone purchased both and done a comparison Steele vs Restorations.
Are the lengths the same? Why does Steele only cover 3/4 of the cargo doors? My current ones (which need replacing) go all the way around the door.

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
The van originally uses a 3/4 the way around piece of rubber on the rear and side left doors since the right door weatherstrip closes over them,,,, otherwise you have double coverage,,,,,but sometimes one weatherstrip won't cover the gap in the middle of those side and rear doors where they meet....and besides, come on Meyer, take one for the team, buy them and let us know if they are any good,,,,,,

Re: Door Rubber...for the doors
Sure Don, I could do that for the team - its just that the extra $170 spent on the second set of door rubber should go to get that Nova 3.06 rear end in that I have been sitting on

Thinking that's what I ran in to also. Think the price is the same from either one to.

Looks like he's just another retail/Mail order outlet for the same parts.
