I'll be interested in everyone's input. I'm going to attempt this myself in the next month or so. Painless has been recommended by several people, but way too expensive for my budget. What about Rebel Wire? Anyone have experience with them?

This looks like a good option to me. Everything labled. Lots of AUX. wires and the price? Not to bad at all....

I called Painless, don't waste your time. If they can't just enter your Make / Model in the computer the people that answer are no help. You will need a general harness.

In the end I just bought my own wire and made my own harness. Yeah, its a big job, and haven't tackled under the dash yet, but I sure have a better understanding of how it's all tied together. I didn't spend as much as buying an already made harness, but it was a real chore finding all the right gauges and colors.

I am looking into as well. The one looks like a good deal. Since my van's only option will be a radio someday the 20 circuit is a little overkill but for the price you can't beat it. Below was a email I got back from Ron Francis.

BARE BONZ when flexibility on location is a must @ $359.95 8 fuses-10
circuits,2 are select-a-fuses. Great for more basic hot rods that you don't
plan many accessories or your replacing a simple stock system. Lots of
flexibility. The BARE BONZ allows flexibility in location of the fuse panel.
As far back as the front seat. Perfect for a super neat installation.

EXPRESS for that car with your favorite toys and still having the
    installation flexibility @ $429.95 16 fuses-21 circuits, 4 are
select-a-fuses. The EXPRESS allows flexibility in location of the fuse
panel. As far back as the front seat. Perfect for a super neat
    installation.

They have harnesses with small amount of circuits, but I'm looking at the 20 because I think I'm going to have alot of stuff. My thoughts are fresh wire threw out can't hurt.

When they break in you hand it's time to replace, most of the important wires in mine were melted because the PO (s) did there handiywork ass backwards. Instead of replacing the ignition switch he put a pushbutton on it and ripped the wires out, but thanks to the color diagram here I was able to get it fixed right. I did all the important wires but have to repalce the roof line right where they go to the back so it will one of the last things I do. The Ron Francis one has the horn relay built into the fusebox which I thought was a nice feature. I went to a newer alternator so I already eliminated the voltage regulator, the less wires around the engine the better.

OK, I get if you have more circuit capability the price goes up, but what else explains the seemingly wide variation in prices on these things?

No wire expert, Ron Francis harnesses come with all the stuff you need as most do I think. I sent them the specs on what I needed to just replace what I had so it may of been made to order. It may be the grade of wire, how simple it is to install, made in the USA or even how much someone wants to mark up the price??

I recently installed the Ron Francis GM powered Express (XP-66). I initially thought it was going to be an ugly task (no matter who's kit I bought), but it was a great install and everything works awesome on my 68 Chevy. Before the install, I upgraded to a one wire alt. and a HEI dist. w/built-in coil. I only have a few wires in my doghouse tucked inside heat resistant split loom. CLEAN!

watch out for the fuse boxes with the shiny metal casing it makes it a bitch to get live fuses out without shortin stuff and who wants to disconnect the batt. every time you wanna change a fuse
