Rear brake hose Empty Rear brake hose

Post by Guest Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:08 am

My rear brake hose on my '65 240 is cracked. I ordered one locally, but got a hose with the incorrect end. It didn't have the Y and the hole for the axle housing vent. Then I tried Mac's autoparts thinking they would have the correct hose. But I got the same one! Where can I get the right one? Why would Mac's sell a hose that we can't use?

See the pics here... the one in the bag in the one I got from Mac's. Rear brake hose IMG_0229

I just called Mac's. They told me the van is supposed to come with the hose that they sent me (female invert flare on one side, male inverted flare on the other). I have two vans, a 61 and 65, both have the hose with the Y fitting.

No one else has had this problem?

Also, the part number I received was C1UU-2282-A. Can anyone confirm this is the correct part number for the early vans?

I was thinking that too. But unfortunately no, both my van's have the same, non-removable Y fitting.

I might have to find a way to secure an inverted flare union Y to the rear axle. Maybe braze a mounting lug on?

I believe you are mistaken about the brass y fitting being non removeable from the hose. The hose Mac's sent looks correct to me. It looks like the hose on my 62 I just crawled underneath in the garage. The y fitting is a seperate piece and listed as so in the Ford parts book I have. Put the hose in a vise and try to seperate the fitting. Worse case scenario it breaks, the hose is bad anyway. My parts catalogue for some odd reason doesnt show a part number for the hose. It list the group number 2079 in the illustration but when I cross it to the part number page it skips from 2078 to 2080 for some odd reason.

I got this from an old post at the Oldeconolines site.
    >>>>>> "for the rear rubber brake line I show Part# C1UU_2282-A FOR 61-65
    and it is 10 1/2" long. Part# C6TZ_2282-D for 66-67 and it is 13 15/16"
    long."

I RAN INTO THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 65 BUT ONLY BECAUSE I PUT A FORD 8 INCH REAR IN IT. IS THE BOTTOM OF THE -Y- CONTOURED TO FIT THE AXLE TUBE? AND IS IT BOLTED IN WITH THE VENT TUBE/BOLT? IF SO TRY THIS ONE FROM NAPA'S ONLINE CATALOG. IF IT'S NOT CORRECT, TRY ROCK AUTO AND SEARCH THE OLDER VEHICLES THAT HAVE 8 AND 9 INCH REAR ENDS. I TRIED A 69 FORD GRANADA AND FOUND SOME. YOU JUST NEED TO CHECK THE FLARE FITTING SIZES AND COMPARE THEM TO THE SPECS THEY LIST. GOOD LUCK. THOSE HOSES ARE STILL AVAILABLE. YOU MAY JUST HAVE TO LOOK IT UP FOR A DIFFERENT APPLICATION. http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?R=UBP36606_0162159203

interesting... I would bet that the NAPA one obviously is one piece, but the one you bought requires a separate junction block... different aftermarket parts manufacturers...

Yeah, I guess it's just an aftermarket parts thing...

That NAPA part number UP 36606 is the same part that comes up for the 2nd gen Econos. It's about 8" longer than I need, but better longer than shorter.

I would swear the hose unscrews from the brass y. The y with a concave side made to match the contour of the round axle. I have a box of that stuff, and pile of axles,, will look tommorrow afternoon.

So like maybe the original hose had a removable fitting but all the aftermarket ones are 1 piece units?

take your old hose to a hydraulic repair house, if there willing to help they can build something to fit. Some of those places will tell you to get bent at the counter, so find one of the guys in back that wants some pocket money.

Another way might be to get a flare fitting T at Carquest or Napa,,,,,and T that hose to the rear brake lines,,,,,you would have to mount it to the rear end with a braket,,,,,

I've been watching this thread with some interest as I'd just purchased a new set of hoses for the van off e-bay (from South America somewhere[?]).

Given that it was a 42 degrees celcius day today.......it seemed the perfect time to marinate in my own sweat and replace the hoses and re-install my rebuilt front axles.

The rear for my '63 was correct (and as supplied by mac's) - a screw in male fitting into the brass junction block mounted on the rear axle.

    Regards,

    Rhys

I considered going to a hydraulic place, but figured they wouldn't want to touch an automotive hose. I just bought a Raybestos one for the 69 E100. The end doesn't unscrew, it's longer, but it'll work.
