    1967 G10 Heater Core Empty 1967 G10 Heater Core

    Howdy!

My heater core has been lightly leaking for a while now. Nothing terrible just a few drops here and there. Last time I took her out, I got on the throttle a bit (80ish) and noticed the leak really leaking. Once I started driving normal again the leak subsided. Leak is coming downfrom the copper tubes. I’m guessing the core has been compromised. Anyone know how to repair this? Or how to replace it?

    Thanks in advance. Stay safe.

Van back from the body shop, working on getting it ready for Van Nationals..    Took it for a spin last night and about 15 minutes away from home the heater core emptied itself onto the passenger floor.

I have a spare I bought years ago from someone parting a van out, so I will pressure test it tonight, but if that doesn't work I will be having it rebuilt like in the link above.

I also found these old snapshots I took for reference a long time ago because I knew the day would come that I needed them.

I don't know if a 1st Gen. core is the same size as a 2nd Gen.

I am calling a radiator shop today to see what they can do for me, but here's where i'm at..

    2nd Gen Core:  2" Thick,   9 1/2" Tall, 6 3/8" Wide
    1968 Chevy II: 2.5" Thick, 9 1/2" Tall, 6 3/8" Wide

There is room for the extra half inch, but the end cap from the van core will have to be put on the thicker core since the pipes are different. I don't know if they can cover that extra half inch of core.

The Chevy II Aluminum core is only 2" thick,  but I doubt you can attach a brass van core end to an aluminum core.

Radiator shop guy said the one I removed from my van was shot,  sitting to long with air trapped inside and antifreeze caused it to corrode. It would need a new core at a cost of $240, and a week to get it. He said he orders them from a place that builds the core to his specs. I didn't ask him, but it would be cheaper to buy the Chevy II core and have the van cap moved to it.

Instead he is repairing my spare core for $85.

He has been doing this for 20 years, so I am depending on his expertise. Hope that it doesn't bite me in the ass.

Back in the day, I had a couple of passengers burn their toes on those exposed metal tubes.....Perhaps one of these other cores will fit but merely require the hoses to come up into the box(?).... (IDK).....
I doubt their are any other cores available that have those crazy tubes...
