Vent window help ???

Can the vent window and channel be taken out w/out taking out the window(roll down) glass? my windows pass and drivers are not working properly and I think it's because the rivets that hold the vent to the channel failed. Some help? Thanks ~ GK.

you're liable to be taking out the glass and the window regulator before you get done twisting that bracket out of the glass opening,,,,,

I've been in there before and was not sure if I was going about it the best way. I've always taken the window out first which is not easy and I'm sure taking the window in and out to many times is why the rivets are failing. Just was hoping maybe there was another way.

I wish my memory was better as I just worked on mine this summer. Pretty sure I left the window in th e door when I pulled the vent. May have had to take it of the regulator slide and tuck it back out of the way. Not a pleasant task however you tackle it. Getting that piece that sticks out sideways up through was the tough part.

The vent window can be removed alone leaving the track/frame in place. It's probably an issue with the pivot. I've never had the rivets break before. Just kinda tricky to get at the nut on the pivot up inside the door.

Its just that there's to much movement where the channel is riveted to the vent window and the window seems to bind when I try to roll it up. It worked better before the last time me and the glass guy monkeyed with it but he scratched the glass after the adhesive dried so believe it or not we had to cut the glass out with a sawsall, YEP that's right a SAWSALL. Not pretty at all but he thought it was the only way and what the hell do I know?
So here I am having to fix something I know little about , but I can't help but think it's those rivets.

so  are you saying #1 is loose,,,,,are the bracket screws on its bottom tight?    #2 is usually a problem,,,upper and lower screw mounts could be broken,,,,,do you have a good #3  rubber channel?

#1 is looser on the drivers side than on the passenger so I'm thinking that's most of the problem, but the passenger side isn't working great either. #2 seemed good but I'll take another look. #3 is new. If I'm going to pull the window out I'll match it up to the old one and see if it was cut correctly, maybe its the wrong size/shape? I'll get some garage time tomorrow see what I find.

Here is them there rivets that hold the forward channel onto the vent assembly,,,,,,,maybe spray some silicone in the tracks that the glass rides up and down in and in the roller that rides at the bottom of the glass also,,,,,

I've replaced the rivets not long ago and they don't seem the same as before we messed with the window to much. I'll give the silicone a chance but isn't that going to be temporary? Then again why fix today what can wait till tomorrow,

you need to dial in the problem,,,,,is it rivets,,,,,is it alignment,,,,,,,is it binding,,,,,,,so lets see if silicone changes anything,,,,,that would test for binding,,,,,,,then we head in that direction or go another way if it dont make a difference,,,,,,,step by step,,,,,,,ONCE,,,,,we get information that we need,,,,,

Didn't get a chance today I'll get some silicone on it tomorrow and let you know what happens. Thanks ~ GK.
