Windows that open. Empty Windows that open.

Post by gkpost Sat Dec 01, 2012 1:28 pm

I've been working on this on and off for way to long and I want it on the road. But I want it to be comfortable. So I would like the windows in the back to open as I want to use this as a camper/very cool vehicle.I have a 67-g with windows on the passenger side. Pop outs? or anything that opens would be great. Spent all the $$$ on motor and trans,so custom made windows are out of the question. Most of you have done this before so what's the deal? Any info good or bad, what worked what didn't. I saw something about 80's duravan pop outs fitting the gen
    2's is this true?
Thanks for any and all help. GK.

They made windows that open for 1st & 2nd gens but they are hard to find. The 3rd Gen windows will not fit 1st or 2nd gens. Donavan has posted that you can modify the popout windows frames out of the 3rd Gen Chevy vans to fit the glass in 1st & 2nd gens with some cutting. Maybe he will see your post & guide you to the thread that has that info.

Those Pop Out windows are kind of hard to find in good condition,,,,however,,,I took an 84 GMC Vandura frame and cut it down to fit a Pop Out glass and made me a Slide Out window,,,,,those frames are better built and easy to modify,,,,I guess you could use a stationary glass which is about 1/2" smaller also.

Taking the gasket off one of those pop out windows on the sliding door from  a Dodge mini van and cutting it to fit does a good job,,,,,,

Bottom pop out. Much better for leaving open rain or not. Maybe if some of us converted enough of our back windows to top hinge like that it would free up some other windows for the side pop outs as I like their way of moving air in and out under way. Thanks for posting!
