Anyone have some encouragement or advice for an apprehensive dude who needs to rebuild his monojet? got 2 rebuild kits but also i'm up at 7200 ft. do I need bigger jets or more air and should I just get over myself, buy some lacquer thinner and go for it? there are a lot of tiny parts in that kit/schematic....

Re: Carburetor rebuild
Hey Mikey,
I have effed up quite a few over the years. When that happened I just pulled it all back apart, accounted for all the parts, put all the parts in order, and started all over again. 95%+ of the time I got it right the second time.
The best advice I can give you is DO NOT add beer to the procedure!

Re: Carburetor rebuild
The monojet is easy to rebuild, and is a great carb. Its my favorite of the factory 1bbl carb offerings. I rebuilt mine in 2008, and it still runs great.
My advice, soak all the metal parts (not plastic or rubber) in chem-dip or other brand carb solvent overnight. You may need two gallons of the stuff. Then use compressed air to blow out all the little passages. If you can find alcohol-compatible carb rebuild kit, go for it, even if it costs extra it is worth it. Follow the instructions and make sure you get the float set correctly. Use thread locker on all the threads of the screws in the carb. Do not over tighten (you risk stripping them in the alloy). Use caution to not strip the filter housing fitting. Use thread-lock on the carb stud nuts.
Don't add bigger jets or anything. They run lean as is, should be fine at altitude, just increase your timing advance a little bit.
