Barn Door Handles Empty Barn Door Handles

Post by sasktrini Mon Jun 02, 2008 9:47 am

Did anyone else notice that my Barn Door handles point the wrong direction? My problem is I don't know how to remove them... I would guess that the post on the handle would slide into the latch mechanism, and maybe it's rusted together. Is releasing fluid all it will take to pull the handles out?

    Thanx,

They are probably like this Chevy set up.
You need to reach inside the door and pull up on the horseshoe clip, which lets you pull out the handle.

Thanx Donivan... I couldn't find a clip. I did just find a topic on oldeconolines yahoo group.

    [oldeconolines] Removing Rear Door Handle

Seems like everything else on this van, most everything is seized with corrosion! Remove inner handle, outer is supposed to slide out... The door handles will join the choke cable and parking brake handle that have faced the penetrating oil! Not sure if this is all I need to know, but I'll keep trying! According to the thread, this battle didn't end so well...

On my 61 It's held on by two screws and it pulls right out. You should be able to turn it around.

I let it rest today... heat and penetrating oil still didn't work yesterday. Thanx for jumping in spine (haven't "met" yet), plus on my other topic about the wheels... I'll keep trying on this, and keep you posted about everything!

If you need handles I have a few decent ones. You can get them from http://www.greensalescompany.com/ also. Let me know if you need any parts. I have a garage full of econo goddies, including doors. Good luck with the handles

Where are you Spine? I assume far... I'm so far away from everyone! I have a few irons in the fire as far as parts go, but I hate to say that I still haven't gotten to start on the van... still finishing this stupid car... one and a half door bottoms to go! Checked out the link... I'll have to catalog a few part numbers to check out... thanks! I will definitely be in touch once I get going on the van!

    Hey Saktrini,

Do you have any progress photos of repairing the bottoms of the doors on your car? I have three doors on my van that I have to repair the bottoms and would love some inspiration.
