It should take a gallon, you wouls want to scuff up or run a sander over the existing paint to get the stripper deeper in to the paint, opposed to stripping the same area twice, and don't apply to much at once,, this is one you want to follow the directions on...

depends on the amount of moisture, is it indoors or out ?? once it's striped there is allways sanding involed depending on how well the stripper did. try going on u-tube. there is tons of good info out there...

I used a paint stripper also on mine. It's the ticket to me if you are going up against 2 or more layers of old paint. You will find that the factory primer layer is stubborn so more than likely be ready to sand some away. Avoid using it in spots that may leach out later, like those clips up on the drip rail in the back. There may be a neutralizer for it, I was not aware of one at the time. I used a gallon but was fighting 4-6 layers of paint in some spots! I have also done a complete 1990 cargo van with a little more than a gallon and a 1/2. This is also a process where safety glasses and clothing that protects your skin is needed. Keep fresh water at hand. I had good luck with stuff not rusting up right away but like Dix says it will depend on climate.
