You don't want to go too crazy on the cam since your using a stock head. A slant six can bored a full .100 over so I've heard.

I'm not schooled on cam profiles and such unfortunately.

If no one here has any answers for you, this would be another good one for the folks over at Slantsix.org

ok folks, the guys over at slant six say 254 duration 435 lift and he is using a single 1920 carb with a #56 jet. Still gets good mileage but has more pep.

well.... the cam is a moot point now that my chain slipped and the motor went out the bottom onto the floor and broke the adapter plate Shocked But I guess the good news is that I have a V-8 trans and that's why it has an adapter on it so..... now I guess I'm going to put a 318 in it Cool

crane and comp cams have listings for mild cams for the leaning tower of power engines.

You could also call "SUMMIT RACING". They would have just about everything you could ever want... Including "Answers"...

I must point out that a six 727 is different internally from one made for a v-8 they, in six form.dontlike much over 200 lbs ft tq.. SO I recommend that you have the trans re built with v-8 internals if you are going to put a 318 in it.

I rebuilt my slant 6 a few years back and went with a cam that was developed by a guy on the slantsix.org site and Erson cams. a revised version of RV15 I believe it was. I'm running that cam, with the engnbldr oversize stainless valves, some porting work, a two barrel, and 2 1/4" exhaust. I also have a 3.55 gear, a oem a727 hd trans (exact same internals as the small block a-engines...the internals are all heavy duty) with an 11" converter. It is plenty powerful, the power really comes on above 3000 rpm all they way to a self imposed rev limit of 5000 rpm. I would spend time reading and asking questions on that slant6 site. Just know that they are like little brain surgeons there...they take that engine extremely serious and some of those guys are really really devoted....but they will steer you right. Just cam it smaller than you think. A slant 6 with too much cam on the street with mismatched components is beyond a turd....they'll tell you for sure. Cool
