Post by mikeysly Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:00 am

my original radiator core is shot. guy says tanks are fine but he wants 400ish to give me a new core! i think that's crazy high! (haha) is there an easy new bolt-up replacement aftermarket aluminum radiator available yet? i'm running a straight six 250 with an original downflow(?) radiator and i want my motor super cool and my heat super hot. any suggestions?

I got one for my 2nd gen V8 out of a 94(ish) dodge van. The width was fine but it is a little taller (say 5-6 inches) so you will need to make extensions. The hoses fit just fine.[img][/img][img][/img]

Mikey , to best of knowledge , there's no off the shelf, GM replacement, exact measurement radiator out there. Some are close, but modified to fit.
A few folks have an aluminum one made and close to price you mentioned.
Not enough demand like a Camaro or Chevelle .

i build a ton of custom cars, trucks and vans. and i'm also really close to summit racing. i always measure up the radiator, and find a universal aluminum one in their catalog that is reasonably close in size to use. they are usually under $150 and work awesome. never had a problem out of one. the only thing you have to do is run an external tranny cooler

Hey man - '67 Mercury Cougar radiator fits REALLY nicely, you do have to drill some holes in two strips of aluminum to 'bridge' the distance. The Cougar rad is just a tad narrower. simple upgrade, very cheap on ebay, $180 or so, built in tranny cooler. just pay attention to hose routing, you can flip the thermostat housing but you want to have the bottom one on the correct side. I'm also running a 250, the rad cools nicely in super hot summers.
