Buying a Van Long Distance Empty Buying a Van Long Distance

Post by NoBiggie Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:29 pm

Has anyone had trouble buying vans out of state? I have tried to buy two different vans in the last month, but can't seem to get the sellers to commit after agreeing to price.

It seems they want to keep holding out until they can sell them locally. I get it, it's probably less hassle, but frustrating when you spend hours and days on the phone, texting, etc.

Just wondered what everyones experience has been. I don't care if that's what they want to do, just don't yank my chain for weeks. Just say upfront that's not what you want to do.

Been kind of a strange experience.

Was trying to get Ken Garchows van up in OR.

And also Eric in Westlake Village. Hes the guy with the 'kdnappr' CA plate.

Oh well, I figure if things are working out it's not meant to be.

    Anyone in the Temeculah area?

I am near Temecula if you need help with something?? PM me if you do.

I have bought a VW from Utah and had it shipped to California. The biggest thing is the shipping as the seller was fine.

any seller that would turn you down because your out of state, or province here, is not really interested in selling, at least thats what i think. all they are doing is trying to gauge the price. if someone (you) would pay x dollars from out of state, (they) my price must be to low, and they try to resell at a higher price. if you have the name, adress, and phone number and you show at his door with the agreed cash in hand and the seller still turned you down then they are NOT interested in selling. i mean holy crap i drove from where i live in canada to just outside albany new york TWICE to get my truck.

Thanks for the offer, I just ran across this one too late. People put weird titles on there items for sale and it doesn't show up in the normal search.

I like that kdnapper van. it’s not cheap but if you are wanting one w/ V8… can you ask him to hold it until you can get out in person, buy a round trip ticket. drive it back or use your return ticket after you do the transaction in person.

I really liked that kdnappr van too. I like all the engine work he's already done, and I like the automatic. Van looks really clean. But I can't get him to call me back.

He called me and texted me pics of it and said we would talk when he got back from a ski trip on the 2nd. I left a few messages and a text but I gave up finally. I'm not gonna beg. Rolling Eyes

I could see if you were buying from craigslist the seller complaining about shippong the van out of town. Most of these type of people can't think out of the box. And have no idea how you can read the add from out of town. But e-bay sellers understand this up front. I've bought 2 vans out of town with no problems at all. One i had transported from Georgia. And the other I flew someone into Texas. They picked him up at the airport and he drove it home. But i had about 50 photos of the van including the gauges while it was running.. If you can see oil pressure and no foot on the gas pedal you can let your gard down a little.

Yeah, I have bought a few thousand items off ebay, but never a vehicle. Still, the buyer seller relationship is pretty straight forward.

On CL, I can see wanting to sell something locally. But on a few of these vans where they are asking top dollar, they can't be getting tons of offers. You would think they would be willing to sell it to anywhere, USA.

That one is a bit rough for me. I'm being a baby and holding out for something that isn't a big project. study

Hopefully a nice custom panel will come along. Just have to be patient.

depending on what it cost e-bay insures it to be as avertised they gave me 1,500 miles or 30 days money back warranty again from e-bay for FREE... kind of hard to beat when you just bought it as is.

Hah! I can see how it would be easy to get more than one! Watching so many go by that are close to what you want is tough. But if I had 5 of them, my wife would have my nuts in a jar. Not that she tells me what to do or anything. Laughing
