I am looking to swap to disk brakes on the front of my 65, how hard is this and what vehicle should I get the parts from? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Disc Brakes???
I got a kit from D&D. Super easy. Vic aka "OldSkool" also makes/sells a kit that's really nice.
Lots of swapping articles online.
If you search online you will find there are disks that will swap on, but will require a lot of scrounging and fabrication, e.g., AMC disks, with calipers from something else and spindles and brackets from something else.

Re: Disc Brakes???
I went with D&Ds disc brake bracket and dual master cylinder. Its not hard to do but be prepared to spend some money. All said and done I spent around $1100 with new brake lines that not bad.
Use the search button on the site and type in Disc Brakes and you will see a lot of topics on this, just make sure you are looking at econolines. Will not be the same for the Gs and A100s

Re: Disc Brakes???
I just used the D&D kit, plus a Maverick dual MC and I purchased a bracket. I clocked in at well under $500.

Re: Disc Brakes???
Looks like they have made changes to the site.
http://www.dddiscbrakes.com/kits.html
to stay way under $500 you must have been able to find some damn good deals. I spent $600 with Dennis on the Basic kit and his Loaded Master Cylinder kit and once I bought new brake lines, rotors, calipers, remote reservoir etc I was at the $1000 mark counting in extras. I did not buy anything used.

Oops, I looked at the wrong line. Probably in the $600-$700 range.

Disc Brakes update
Hi guys i'm also looking to convert my brakes. I'm checking out dddiscbrakes.com and I've emailed them some questions... maybe you guys can shed some light on the topic. I'm kind of in the dark.
Q1. Does the kit dual master cylinder attach into the existing location right at the brake pedal and emergency brake pulley mounts?
Q2. What existing items are used in this D&D conversion?
Q3. Does anybody have photos of their D&D conversion?
Q4. Should I have rear discs?
Q5. Does the D&D conversion allow room for modern wheels?
Q6. Does anybody know how wide of a tire that can fit within the well?
thank you for any info guys!

Re: Disc Brakes???
Q1. Does the kit dual master cylinder attach into the existing location right at the brake pedal and emergency brake pulley mounts?
A1. It uses the stock position, some econos require a small area on the ebrake bracket to be trimmed.
Q2. What existing items are used in this D&D conversion?
A2. The stock spinlde and hub are retained. As well as the hard lines.
Q3. Does anybody have photos of their D&D conversion?
A3. Somebody posts some pics please
Q4. Should I have rear discs?
A4. This is totally up to you. A 9" rear with drum brake will be plenty along with front discs.
Q5. Does the D&D conversion allow room for modern wheels?
A5. So far we have had no issues that I am aware of with 14" or larger aftermarket wheels.
Q6. Does anybody know how wide of a tire that can fit within the well?
A6. I can't really answer this, I have never actually tried to see how wide I can go.

Re: Disc Brakes???
Here's a pic of mine:
I'm using 17 x 7. I got 205's but it seems 215 tires can fit with full steering without hitting. BUT, I have a narrowed axle because I had the axle dropped, it is 3/4" narrower on each side. I can get offeset info for the rims if needed.
Also notice the sway bar, I custom fabbed it, there is potential for interference between it and the caliper. Dennis was concerned and sent me a set of his shock mounts and followed up with a couple of phone calls. I ended up using the stock lower link location but like I said it is pretty f-in tight in there...
