Now and then I have to haul a flatbed for a few miles laden down with a couple+ tons. Took a piece of ¼" thick rectangular tubing 10"x4" x 2' long. Cut it in half lengthwise at a diagonal, leaving essentially two somewhat formidable chunks of structural angle iron of like dimensions. Then, worked in and reinforced some 2-1/2" square tubing. The sides are attached vertically/longitudinally to the frame with ½" ss bolts (eight total), and laterally by the bumper bracket bolts (no, you do
not want to rear-end me). Gas tank mounting clamp is accessible and tank can still be removed.
As much as I hate to admit it, sometimes my beloved bailing wire just don't do the trick.
