    2nd gen pop-tops? Empty 2nd gen pop-tops?

Post by Xelmon Sat May 19, 2012 11:41 pm

    Hey fellas,

So I'm finally getting off of my ass and getting things done on the Chevy that I got.

One of the things I'm wondering about is whether there is a short style pop-top - think VW bus "short style" Riviera pop-tops - that are out on the market. Any resources to look at that you guys know of?

    Cheers

as far as trying to buy these type of tops remanufactored my guess is no. there is just not a great market for them. I agree to install a new one would be great. Every thing i've read everyone has to refab there own parts. when needed.

Pretty sure dix is right. It is pretty hard to even find a 2nd Gen for sale with the pop camper top. I haven't seen one of the pop top campers for sale in a long time.

One off a early VW van would be cool. Maybe even put the 2 piece split pop out wkwindshield in it. I think that they still reproduce the tops for the VW vans & camper vans.

Hm, thanks for the input guys, I had a feeling that there is no golden egg.

As for the VW top, I'm honestly worried about the curvature of the VW top vs the Chevy top.
I got a feeling that a top will be way down the road, when I'll have money to one-off it. =\

Neat thing about the VWee tops, especially the later models up to about 79 was they really were high. I'm 6'2" and could do jumping jacks in them. And, of course, they had a big bed on top. Maybe the smartest pop top ever. Would love to see somebody do the same with their early. Wish I had the dimensions written down. Length would be about right but the width would be a little narrow. Might could work tho.

Honestly a full pop is a bit much for me, and I already have a small window that came with the van. May as well keep the small window and get a custom short pop.

Of course, first to get it running. Smile
