removing gas tank Empty removing gas tank

Post by Guest Tue May 08, 2012 2:46 pm

    Hi all
getting my carb rebuilt on my 64 e van thought it would be a good time to remove gas tank and have it cleaned out. How hard or invovled is this? One or two person job or take it to a shop.
    Thanks Rally72

1 person job. Easy to do. Held on by two straps and two bolts. While your at it go ahead and replace the vent hose to.

Is there a drain plug? I think it has at least a 1/2 a tank.

I do not recall a drain plug. I dropped mine with fuel in it. If you are worried about the weight Use a floor jack to support it.

throw a chunk of plywood on the jack if you think there could be more fuel/water then previously mentioned. This will help dispurse the weight load and not put a dent in the tank...just my 2 cents.

Remember to connect the large gas hose to the tank or the filler pipe before you reset your tank. Slide your tank over and connect your hose before you lift and strap up the tank. I have an extra pc of filler neck hose if you need it.

I’ve removed two, one had drain plug and one didn’t.. maybe use a siphon if you don’t have one?
