Went to get the 66 sportvan just north of Memphis today.

Hooked up and ready to go. Got away from Paducah about 10am.

Arrived at Bobovan'n's place about 1pm. He's got one steep driveway with a 90 degree turn at the bottom. Decided to load up close to the bottom where the back of the trailer was lowest to the ground and wouldn't have to depend so much on the brakes to make that turn.

I managed to hit the trailer the first try and didn't tear anything up!

Fortunately everytime I looked in the mirror on the way home my new DONIVAN was still there.

Got back home about 7pm. The plan tomorrow is to take her to be inspected and apply for Ky. title. Then bring her back home and put her in the garage. Not going to license her right now so I won't be tempted to drive her instead of working on her. The plan is to first strip the interior and start in on the wiring and mechanical. She's drivable now but needs a lot of TLC. LET THE FUN BEGIN!!!!!!!
I'll try to keep pic's of the project posted as I go.

What changed my mind was not being able to sleep for thinking about it. I've always liked the flat glasses best but because of availability I ended up with two second gens. At first I thought it was a little to rough but then I considered the shape that my 68-108 is in and decided if I'm going to have to work on one that much it might as well be one of the ones that I like best. The 66 body looks as good as my 68 does so the 68 is going up forsale after I do a little parts swaping.(tires & wheels, radio and maby seats) Tonight the 66 is settling into its new home for a while, my garage. I'll take more pic's as soon as I can, having to deal with some stuff for my Mom right now but maby I'll get that squared away tomorrow.

Rip the biggest problem with it is the insurance. Other wise there wouldn't be any such thing as to many.

    Mike:

My insurance agent told me to get my vans appraised (even if they have little value) so I can receive a significant rate reduction, but I haven't had the chance to. It may be worth looking into.

The appraisal thing would probably help if your carring full coverage on your van. I'm only carring liability with zero deductible comp. The only thing actually covered on the van it's self is fire, theft, glass breakage and things like hitting a deer. Doesn't cost but about $125 every six months but I'm insuring three. That's about the limit without going back to work and I sure don't want to do that.

    Mike,
That van looks to have a lot of potential. Looks like 90% is just cosmetic. Glad to see it went to a good home. How's the drivetrain? If this thing runs fine or close to it I see one long weekend and it could look like a (almost) new van. From what I can see in the pic's it seems to just need a lot of cleaning. Let us know what you find under that carpet..... affraid

    Ummm. "Tilt" Steering......

The drive train seems to be good. I drove it when I went down last week to look at it. Motor sounded good and ran strong and the three speed auto shifted fine. When I decide how I'm going to do it the tilt wheel is going away. If you look close it's been pieced to the orginal column. The smaller steering wheel makes it drive really hard. It's probably going to take a week to straighten up the wiring under the dash and in the doghouse.
