Ok,the first time I looked at this one I walked away in 2 minutes
    https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/g-vans-for-sale-f21/1965-chevrolet-no-door-t2124.htm
since then it has been made available to me at a more reasonable price(pretty much the high bid). The thing is this is the style I am looking for and its 15mins from my house.I was planning on a v8 so that is not a problem (I also have a 250 out of a 68 camaro). The thing is the body could use alot of work, the roof especially. How hard is it to find parts, grill, roof ribs?

I have a habbit of seeing projects in there finished state so advice is welcomed.
I guess the question is should I keep walking or is this one worth saving?

The only option I see here is to offer him a low ball bid (scrap value) as a parts van if you have room to store it.

i see more wrinkles than rust , IMO
any rebuildable van pre 70' under 500 bucks is a deal
and is there really THAT many early chevys around to say that THIS one is not savable? yes depends on what the buyer wants to put into it ...
... more time and less money or more money and less time

I'd have to echo Leadfoot on this ,,If you have or are willing to spend the time and money on it, 500 $ isn't bad. You just can not expect to have it road ready real quick.

If it was 15min from me you wouldn't be asking this question! I have six earlies and many other projects and this could replace ony one of them... any day. Come on... a no door at your back door?! Put a big ragtop in it and cut your body work in half!

I would say look at the bottom of the van,,,,,see how much rust is on the frame, springs and rocker panels. You will always have problems if there is a lot of rust under the van. You can fix the other problems or hide it with Bondo. Normal bad spots are, around the filler neck in the van, roof drip rails, rocker panels, windshield, front floor and below the lower door hinges inside the van.

And don't forget the back rear spring mounts, and side & back door jams(low by floor) My 64 Nodoor was a rust busket when I stared on it.

Thanks Mike, I'm honored to have my van as your screen saver. Hillsboro looks like it's about a 2-3 hour drive from me. That van has been for sale for a while. Looks nice in those pic's.

Yea I really like the early chevys.Went to go look at the 65 yesterday. There are some tuff spots on the van (mostly roof and back floor area)but there are some solid parts too(all door jambs, all the floor in front of back wheels, frame, and glass).I think I am going to take this one home and maybe continue my search after the job situation gets better ,could use a donor van or Vis Versa (need grill and rear roof gutter).Worse case I have a really cool shed for awhile. Will post some pics when I get it home.Have to admit after 7 yrs without a van it feels good to be back in the game no matter what the condition is.

    mike
p.s. Hope you all don't mind but I may rely this site since none of my friends or family understand this fasination I have with early vans.

mcfly most of us are here for the same reason. Most of our familys don't understand why we love these old vans. For me it's great just having you guys here thinking as I do and not thinking I'm the only one.

congrats, i'll look around i may have a section of roof gutter kicking around
as far as a roof skin, consider a later model anything van for a clean sheet
i personally the only thing i never really liked about 1st gens is the roof line
how it drops down before the front doors... and REALLY liked how using a 79
ford roof worked out to replace the chopped roof in one shot
