Re: engine storage
leave the oil - get a can =aerosol - of marine storage oil & pull the plugs = spray the stuff in each cylinder -& turn it 180 degrees 1 turn & spray again - do same again 2 times & put the plugs back in it & forget it - drain the carb if equipped !![i]

Re: engine storage
and it wouldn't hurt to blow the coolant passages out with an air hose.
also I would recommend covering the exhaust ports/manifolds and carb to keep critters out. Watch for natural condensation in the motor, mine sat for 4 or 5 years before I got it and there was a good quart of water condensation in the block.
I've seen other garage stored motors have water in the cylinders from it as well.

Re: engine storage
If it's going to sit for long time, i'd take the rocker arms off enough to have all the valves closed. The springs will thank you later.

Also:
For condensation control:
We go to the store that sells boxes and storage suplies and buy 1/2 lb Disacent bags and use that the block the intake and exhaust outlets and duct tape over every other opening. Sometimes self storage places have them for sale.
disacent bags are reusable; throw then in the microwave for a few minutes to boil the moisture out of them.
