    overhead console

Post by bugeye bob on Wed Aug 17, 2011 5:41 pm

does anyone know of a manufacture of the overhead console that goes all the way across the headliner behind the windshield, ithink back in the 70's they were made out of plastic and you could mount your radio and cb in them along with switches. i really don't want to cut a hole in my dash.

I don't know of anyone that makes one but you could probably fabricate something pretty easily. I plan on doing one myself with tin "hat channel" framing studs from home depot and 1/4 plywood (cover it with thin speaker carpet).

I would not expect to find a early over-head console manufacture. I went to home depo and used 3/4 x 3/4 alluminum angle, measured left to right cutting the front side to lenth and the botton 1 1/2 inches longer each side. and bent that up and screwed it into the inside gutter. then used a firing strip tuck it in to the gutter arch it up toward the roof and tuck it into the outher side gutter. then it's 1/9 in laun plywood. If you go to interior and look up overhead console you should be able to see most of this...
