Hey guys, I'm just getting ready to install a newly rebuilt 170 engine into my "bone" stock 1965 E-van. I want to replace the old stock alternator & voltage regulator with a new, 1 wire alternator. Any suggestions on what brand/model alt to purchase?. Additionally, how is it wired into the stock harness...which wires do I use and which can I eliminate? Thanks in advance for your help.

When switching to a self-energized alt, you remove the regulator and tape off or remove the wires. A single wire with a fusible link goes from the alt, to the battery. Dash light or gauge?

Thanks for the quick response. I don't have a gauge, just a dash light.

And you got choices of what 1 wire alternator to use,,,,,,In my book, converting a 3 wire GM alternator that costs about $15 at Pick a Part is the basic way to go,,,,,,,,or you can spend more money,,,,,,,,,,
