Slave Cylinder? Need Help. Empty Slave Cylinder? Need Help.

Need some info on a slave cylinder.
Got a 66 pickup. I was changing the brake lines back on top of the rear axle at the union for the lines.
Well, one line comes from the front, two lines go out to each wheel.
So, I notice on top of the slave cylinder, or union is a flex line..going vertical.
I follow it up towards the gass filler it gets buried in sheet metal.
The concern is that the hose is broken and where it attached to the top of the slave,
inside the hole is all dirt.
    What do I do?

Jim, the bolt holding the union is hollow and it does vent the rear end. It has nothing to do with the brakes, other than holding the brake line to the rear end.

hey guys thanks for the info...
With all the vans I've had, I never had the opportunity to run new brake lines.
    Hence, slave cylinder=axle vent..Smile

You aren't talking about the fuel tank vent line, are you? There would be a long u-shaped tube that loops up and down through the floor, rubber hose running to the top of the fuel tank.

Corey I looked at the 66 Shop manual I have. It shows the hose your talking about goes to a hollow bolt that goes through into the axle housing for venting. It works a double job of venting the axle housing and holding the brake line T body to the housing.
Your 66 E van they must of put a rubber hose on it to vent up in the gas filler box. They may of been afraind it would plug with dirt just sitting on top of the axle. It has nothing to do with brake fluid in it.
If there is brake fluid. You would be pumping it out pretty fast.
