Re: is this a chrysler A727 trans?
how would i know if its the 904 or the 747 (which one is better as far as parts go)? its not shifting from gear to gear and its leaking oil, as you can see, and the dipstick is just not accurate, how can i check for oil levels?

a 904 has a basicly square pan and the 727 has a bump out by the dipstick tube. thats a funny lookin case though with the starter on the right side. last time i saw one like that it was a 904 out of an A.M.C. product. they had the starters on the passenger side of the trannys. same internals as chrysler but case completely different on the outside.

i have a rambler and it has a 904 in it, and looks identical to yours. 904s are good but 727 is the one to have i personally think.

904's are the preffered trans of drag racing applications and 727 are better for heavy duty stuff in chrysler/dodge. hard to beat either one.
