It will be stamped on the info plate beside the drivers seat (on the wheel hump). There may also be a metal tab under one of the nuts holding the chunk into the rear housing that has the ration stamped on it. Last resort is that its stamped on the edge of the ring gear.

if it's out count the number of teeth on the pinion and ring gear. divide the ring gear into the pinion.

Yep, mine was a 3.55 for example and had 3.55 stamped on the ID plate inside the drivers door (on the wheel hump).
Here's a good bit of info on rear ends.
Gear ratios available on the 8-3/4" axle through the years include:
2.76, 2.93, 3.23, 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 3.91, 4.10, 4.56, 4.89, 5.17, 5.57.
