L.E.D. Tail Light replacement Empty L.E.D. Tail Light replacement

Post by SIN BIN Wed Sep 08, 2010 11:36 am

Due to the fact that I had only one functional rear light when I bought my van, I decided to look into the problem.

Upon further inspection I discovered a little bit of a mess. So instead of trying to find factory replacement parts...I went another way.

They are bright as all get out!

Had to do a little bit of round filing to get them so sit back so they wern't flush with the body.

Got them at a local place called Princess Auto (I know, bad name) for $30 each, but I think they were well worth it.

Let me know what you guys think Question

Lookin' good SIN BIN, like they were made to fit there.

We've got LED bulbs front and back too. I get comments about how bright they are all the time. Bulbs and an electronic flasher and it's done!

As for the heat of the bulbs, has anyone tried LED dome light bulbs?

Chris, When you first posted about painting the buckets white I did it! The picture above was taken after they were painted..

I don't want to be the ants on anyone's picnic, but make sure this mod is legal for street use... one thing these taillights lack are reflective lenses... vehicles to see you when they aren't immediately behind you, or when your taillights are unlit. You might need to installl reflectors if you are losing the stock taillight lenses in order to be able to drive legal.

That said, I bought a set of 4" LED taillights just like those to use... I love how clean they look and how bright.

One bad thing about them is that they project a beam-like glow directly to the vehicle behind you, but no ambient glow at any other indirect angle... trucker in a big rig may not see your brake lights go on if he's tailgating you.

Just make sure brothers and sisters that you do this mod legal and safe... don't assume that because they are brighter, that they are also more effective. Stock taillights with LED 1157 bulbs may be bright and safe, though they wouldn't look very trick.
