TBI Fuel Injection ?? Empty TBI Fuel Injection ??

Post by whopman Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:25 am

Tired of the heat soak. Starts fine first time of the day. Once its up to operating temp and shut it down it is a pain to restart. Sound familiar? So I am toying with the idea of using a TBI fuel injection system from Howell Engineering or Affordable fuel injection. Howell uses a stock HEI distributor and Affordable comes with a HEI distributor..
Does anyone have any experience with either? Will it get rid of the starting problems? I am not looking for improved gas mileage or performance just reliability..
Thanks for any and all input!

BW the starter is not the problem. I replaced the neg and pos cables with 2 gauge cables and replaced all the alternator wires with fresh wiring. The problem is heat soak. gets so hot it evaporates the fuel out of the carb. You have to hold the gas pedal wide open to start then baby the throttle to build the fuel back up in the carb..
Hyway id there a link to ratvans set up?

Have you tried adding a carb spacer? I've had this issue on several vehicles. I usually machine a 1/2" spacer out of G10 or G11 phenolic. This acts as an insulator between the intake manifold and the carb, reducing the heat soak issue. You'll have to make sure you have clearance above your air cleaner to fit the spacer below, however. Adding a spacer has the added benefit of increasing your manifold volume as well.
