Going to strip the rearend out of the 70 parts van and just wondered if the axels were
interchangable with a 1st gen? Bill

i think they are the same with axle flange to axle flange,
but the spacing of the spring saddles are different, one
is about 1/4 inch different, i think due to the difference
of the spring widths. i just can`t remember whitch one
    is wider.

I was just thinking if the axels were good I would save them for future use just in case I needed them down the road. Bill

if they are both 10 bolt or both 12 bolt the internals, including
axles are interchangable. i think it would be a smart thing
    to hang on to.

    Bill,
I'm hanging on to mine from the 69 as well. Just to be on the safe side....

I seem to remember that you can put a 2nd Gen. into a 1st but not the other way around...

    Dan

When the 1st and 2nd Gen rear ends are next to each other, I don't see any difference,,,,,,,now the axles change depending on the rear end gear ratio,,,,,,,,and the 31 1/2" long , 1 3/16" diameter, 28 spline, 10 bolt rear axles are REALLY something to hang onto,,,,,,,they are fading out fast,,,,,,,

Thanks guys the rear has 3.36 gears like my van and rather than keep the rear end laying around I would just strip it and save the insides. Bill
