When I bought my van the wire Lokar linkage was broken and had been replaced by a piece of coat hanger wire.
First rule: wire is only good for low cycle application; like a choke. Second rule: you can't push things with a rope. 
So I went to the Pick-A-Part and got the longest throttle cable I could find; out of an
80's Chevy Van. This one goes around the engine from the back, back towards the front, across the front, and then back to the firewall on the donor van.
