Roof seam sandwich? Empty Roof seam sandwich?

Post by sasktrini Fri Jun 25, 2010 9:41 am

I can't remember who, but someone had posted a cross-section of the configuration how the various panels are arranges at the joint between the walls and roof... I have a couple leaks to deal with. I can't tell it the leak is coming above the drip rail, or from below it. If any of you recall this thread, please provide a link or pic.

    Thanks,

It was something like this Chevy,,,,,,,the roof is spot welded to the side rails every 2 inches and the seam sealer goes over the spot welds,,,,,,,,

Thanks Donivan! I hope the Ford is the same!

Demondog, when I look at the Shambulance, the rail extending from the side doors almost all the way to the front door. However, my worst leak seems to be coming from the rear passenger corner... I may need those portions cut out of the silver donor. If you are able, maybe you will be able to take a pic of the drip rail sandwich so I can anticipate the disassembly and repair.

    Thanks again!

You might be able to clean out the seam with a wire wheel and run new seem sealer in it. I used the fuzar seam sealer and it fixed all my leaks. One note on that seam sealer it says to let it sit for 15 mins them shap or smooth it but you have to do it right away 15 mins is to long.

Corey I think it would be best with the silver van to just cut the whole roof off. and then we can cut sections of it from there. If we keep dicing sections it will start to flop on a windy day here. Then the roof may fly up or off and damage other stuff in the van or my other parts vehicles.

When were you thinking of getting these sections. I should be home Saturday. Next weekend I have a 50th wedding anniversary to attend.

Whatever you think is best... I'm off work Friday (yay four-day weekend) Maybe I will have the rest of the welding done and can get out there with the van on Saturday.

I'm on track to be able to get out there with the van on Saturday. Going to get another cylinder of Argoshield tomorrow and finish the bad body repairs!

I won't make it after all... was too busy running other errands. I don't have the van ready to drive.
