Ive rebuilt the entire front end, kingpins, tie rod ends...but the steering box seems loose. I tried adjusting the play in the box but if I go too tight I hear popping and knocking noises when I turn it. Then if I loosen it up it has too much play in it and wanders/drifts when I drive it. I was curious if this is something that can be rebuilt or do I just need to try and find a good used one? Thanks...

Theres an art to rebuilding them but it can be done or try Straight Line Steering for a rebuild. You definitely dont want to adjust the box too tight. Some play is normal.

Re: Steering box problems?
Sure did and its got 54000 original miles so I know the box is good. The steering wheel still has very obvious ribs in it which are the first signs of high mileage. If it wasnt for the rust factor this van would be the freakin cats meow. Its loaded with good stuff. Perfect original interior which is going in my 63 van. Lots of other good stuff I ll be offering up though. Im on vacation this week at home so feel free to ask for anything you need. Email me at Econousaparts@fuse.net

Re: Steering box problems?
Just got my steering box back and very impressed with their service! This place specializes in rebuilding the 1st gen Econo steering boxes among other things like rack & pinions, gear boxes, etc. They charge $175.00 to $200.00 (depending on the parts it might need) to rebuild our steering boxes and even have them on the shelf for core exchange...
