Broke some bones Empty Broke some bones

Post by Guest Mon Jan 25, 2010 3:17 pm

Today my knee gave out while I was walking in my yard and I fell against a brick planter breaking three ribs and cracking my sternum. It sucks getting old and having your bones get brittle but what really sucks is that the ribs are on my left side which is weak still from the major shoulder surgery. I can barely move my left arm and now it hurts to even breathe.

sounds like you should get fitted for a knee brace for when you wanna putter around the yard, when you're feeling better! Definitely didn't need that. Sorry brother.

Funny you said that. I had a pair I wore but left them in my truck along with my cane about 6 weeks ago and someone stole the braces, the cane and my handicap placard. I was measured for new braces 4 weeks ago but they take 6 to 8 weeks to get made since they are custom braces. Good thing the VA pays for them because they are $3000.00 a pair.

That sux, Mike! I just figure that you aren't the type to slow down, so knee braces will become your friends! PITA, but they help to keep your feet under you.

    Rest up.

Yep you are right. I find it very hard to slow down. I'll be 62 in a little over a month but I am like my grandfather who died at 98 years of age when he fell off the roof of his two story home and broke his neck. He was re-roofing his house by himself and slipped and landed on his head. His wife died sitting in her tractor plowing a field to plant cotton when she was 113. He was Irish and she was Cherokee Indian so I come from a long line of hard heads who don't know when to stop.

I have some oxycontin but I haven't taken any yet. I hate taking pills especially pain pills. I am thinking seriously of getting a medical marijuana card so I can get some of the cannabis butter a friend of mine let me try. Mix a tablespoon of it in some peanut butter then make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich out of it. Lasts 12 hours or more and you have no pain at all, just a desire to eat everything in sight. Enough to last a week is $20.00 so the price is right. The card costs $135.00. I haven't bought weed since it went over $10.00 an ounce but this stuff really works plus it is good for those with post traumatic stress disorder. My VA psychiatrist recommended it, off the record of course.
