Drivers window...How do you.... Empty Drivers window...How do you....

Post by Dantra Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:01 pm

Get the damn thing in there?! Thought I'd ask before I go into total dismantle mode. All of the rubber arounf the wing is very dry and brittle so I didn't want to mess with it too much.

I had an extra passenger window and was able to convert it to a drivers...

BTW...does any company carry the wind seals?

    Thanks
    Dan

on this page http://www.sweptline.com/lit/parts.html if you scroll down there is a rubber parts section - restoration specialties seems to have the most to select from ? - george mentioned on that page also has some sort of parts - not sure what he has at the moment - he has no website or info that i am aware of other than the mention as above - oo3

George has a lot of the stuff you're going to need, but he runs his towing business first, then works on selling 'A' parts. In other words, there's a good chance it's going to take a while.

The vent gaskets have been reproduced with very mixed results. Some have had them turn white, some say they didn't fit. George says the problems are A) No good samples to make a mold and B) the Silicone based rubber they used for short run production. Your best bet may be to find some in a bone yard like someone recently did in Wisconsin.

If you want to get crazy, I believe the guys on a 'Punked/Pimp My Ride' style TV show eliminated the vent window and somehow installed a larger piece of door glass on an A Van-Up like yours.

Also depending on year the earlys 64 to i beleive 66 have diffrent hinges than 67-70 modles. Its been a while Ive seen some good aftermarket ones and Ive seen ones I wouldnt be happy with. I think Nate would have the answer, Pageing Mr. Nate!

    Hinges...as in door hinges?

If so, mine seem pretty good.

What are the mounting points fir the wing vent? As I said, the rubber is REALLY dry so it's kinda hard to move it around and see any other than the one lower mount.

This is out of a manual for removal.
1- Remove lower trim panel if so equiipped
    2- Remove door access panel
3- Remove vent wing lower support bolt
4- Locate upper vent wing retaining clip screw thru weather strip and remove
5- Locate and remove retaining clip screw thru weather strip located at base
of vent wing near division bar.
6- Lower the door glass fully. Close the vent wing, tilt assembly rearward and lift out of door.

No the wing window metal hinge on the vent wing assembily that lets the window open and close. A100s have 2 vent wing assembilys early 64-66-7? and 67-70. they all fasten the same but the rubber for the vent wing differs. The early hinges are around 6" down from the top of the door post and the late model is 8".
