Working on the dual MC upgrade to my 65 (Thanks to donivan65).  While at it, replaced the front and rear bushings on the 1st/Reverse and 2nd/3rd transmission linkage rods.

Used a NAPA M1880 MC, GM bushings #3975132 at the steering column, and GM bushings # 3975131 at the tranny shift levers.  Shifting is smooth and tight – no slop.

Here is where I am a bit stumped.  The 1st/Reverse linkage rod is rubbing the top of the MC when in neutral and shifting from 1st to Reverse.  Hate to end up with a hole someday.  Is there a fix for this?

Has anyone else experienced the transmission linkage rod hitting the top of the MC when putting a 2nd Gen MC in a 1st Gen?

Make sure the rods are also running through the proper u channels towards the back. Factory had rubber moldings on those u channels as well so it’s a smooth shift and stay in a certain route towards the front. Mark Burnitzki (108VanGuy)sells them. He can be found on Facebook or his parts website (https://vintagechevyvanparts.com/)
